But the Host of the West came down on him out of the Hills of Evendim, and there was a great battle on the plain between the Nenuial and the North Downs.
-Appendix A: Annals of the Kings and Rulers, 4: Gondor and the heirs of Anárion

The Hills of Evendim known in Sindarin as Emyn Uial, are a range of hills in northern Eriador, to the north of the Shire. At their southern end lay Annúminas, the first capital of Arnor, the northern kingdom of Dúnedain. In 1975 of the Third Age, forces of Círdan, Master of the Grey Havens and Eärnur of Gondor descended from Emyn Uial upon the forces of the Witch-king of Angmar and destroyed his host during a decisive battle, bringing an end to his dominion in the North.
