The eight homesteads found in the West Marches mainly help maintain the region's farmlands. Depending on their location, they also deal in fishing, hunting, mining, and wood-cutting.
Most of the more ancient homesteads in the east of the region are ringforts, hearkening back to the centuries of conflict between the Rohirrim and the Dunlendings in which protection from outside forces was key. The newer homesteads found in the region's less accessible western end generally feature less sophisticated defences.
