There was at that time a man named Freca, who claimed descent from King Fréawine, though he had, men said, much Dunlendish blood, and was dark-haired. The chief stronghold of the West Marches, the fort of Frecasburg was erected by the treacherous lord Freca nearly three centuries ago. Located at the south-eastern end of the region, it is the last line of defense for its people.
